How to test the input board on an LCD?
Wos just wandering if anyone can help me here, as far as i know at the back of an LCD all the inputs (AV/Component/HDMI/RGB etc.) are on one main board. So if one of the inputs got fried by lightning surely the rest of the inputs should also be fried??? Just wandering cos im really getting major conflicting stories from local satelite TV shops and stuff. Ive replaced my set top box and the HDMI cable but still get no picture using HDMI cable, however using regular RCA/AV cable i get picture.... Any ideas???
each input jack has it's own electronic components that routes their signals to a selector ic. Usually the different types of inputs and grouped together and they might have separate selector ics. So it's very easy for a main to loose one or two inputs while the rest may work just fine. Then the output of these ics will usually go into another selector ic or two dependent upon whats needed to have PIP functions. HDMI is a different creature altogether. The input goes to a circuit that is powered from the source through the hdmi cable. This circuit must receive the signal and verify that it's legal to decode (handshake) then the output is converted to component (analog) and added to the regular component signal stream. Many times in the newer tvs this is all done inside a giant ic and it may never get converted to analog. And in JVC tvs, if the back is removed and light hits a sensor, the hdmi is disabled. This is to prevent people from tapping into the digital data stream and making perfect copies. I've seen many times a main have one hdmi not work and the others work. This is usually a connection problem on the hdmi jack. The weight of the cable can pull the connector right off the main board.
